This was a decent enough show. I’m beyond glad, however, that it wasn’t as stilted or drop-dead boring as Kim Soo-Hyun’s Moon Embracing the Sun because he is one fine actor and it was sad to lớn see him wasted in that show. Still, YWCFTS wasn’t that impressive either.

I watched it on the heels of Strong Woman Do-bong Soon which will forever be unparalleled by any và all so that explains a little why I wasn’t impressed by it a whole lot. But the larger reason is that while entertaining & sometimes funny, YWCFTS was not stellar material. Pardon the pun.

I liked the leads. Kim Soo-hyun because he is precious. The lead actress was beautiful & was great as well. She had a comic role but was effortless in serious scenes as well. I was distracted by her lipstick throughout the show. I couldn’t help it. It was so glossy & pink I wanted khổng lồ wipe it off.

Despite vì Ming-joon being an alien, there was little about his trang chủ planet except for a remark here and there. There were some scenes with spaceships & his fellow aliens but the ‘science’ part was non-existent. No Doctor Who this show. It was a romance story as, I’m now beginning lớn realize, all k-dramas are at their core. And don’t even get me started on the shoddy ending. Wormhole? WHAT? I honestly believed that he would take Cheon Song-yi khổng lồ his home planet with him.

It was a thắm thiết science-fiction (shady) fantasy và was also a bit of a period piece. I loved the small glimpses into the past. I wish the actress who played the teenage version of Cheon Song-yi was a wee bit older because she looked really young with Kim Soo-hyun who must have been 25 or 26 at the time. Still, I liked those scenes.

I WISH they would stop with the loving-all-past-selves-of-the-same-person thing. It’s in literally every kdrama. Lớn prove that the anh hùng and heroine share an eternal, unbreakable bond, they tell us how they or one of the two loved the other’s past self. BLEH. It is SO annoying. No other love interest can compete with that and it’s grossly unfair.

The supporting cast was a good one. There’s another thing that I hate, I’ve encountered it in more than one drama. It’s that at first, the drama builds up this impressive net of characters where every single one of them is layered, complex, has a unique personality and his/her own struggles. Lượt thích Se-mi và Hee-kyung in YWCFTS. & when you begin to care about those people, the story takes the leads into such an intense focus that the supporting characters, while not really forgotten, are thoroughly ignored. You don’t matter, is what the plot seems khổng lồ be saying and I hate that.

Se-mi & Hee-kyung ‘moved on’ but they really did not. They stayed exactly where they were when the show started & underwent no development. Happily ever afters are overrated and unrealistic, I admit that but wasn’t the wormhole-induced angst enough with one couple.

Special shout out khổng lồ the adorable guy who played vì Min-joon’s lawyer friend & the lady gawking at all the pretty men in the show who was legit me.

It’s been a while since I last watched a K-drama, and it’s been even longer since I last saw one that got me completely captivated. The last one was probably Secret Garden, back in 2011. (Although I did really enjoy to lớn The Beautiful You). My sister is still pretty updated with the latest dramas & she strongly encouraged me to lớn watch this one. She told me that since I love shojou mangas with a tsundere male, I would enjoy this a lot. And surprise surprise, she was right. Just one episode in & I was hooked.

The second thing that bugged me (and this is just a personal preference) was all the turtleneck sweaters. I really don’t lượt thích turtlenecks. I understand that some people find them stylish, but personally I think they’re extremely unflattering. I understand that this drama was phối in winter và that they wanted khổng lồ keep their necks warm, but c’mon. When did scarves go out of fashion? Scarves are stylish và much more flattering in my opinion. There was even a scene where Cheon tuy vậy Yi’s mom was wearing this turtleneck sweater with cut outs:

It kind of defeats the purpose of keeping her warm, don’t ya think?

(Whenever I talk about something I don’t like in my Kdrama reviews, I usually get a bunch of hater comments. But I’m not saying this khổng lồ offend anyone. If you lượt thích showering with a towel on và prefer turtlenecks over scarves then good for you. Lượt thích I said, it’s just personal preference.)

Anyway, I’m really glad my sister recommended this drama khổng lồ me. I lost several hours of sleep while watching this, but it was totally worth it. This drama definitely makes it into my All Time Favorites.

I suppose my only other minor complaint about the show is the soundtrack. Don’t get me wrong, I love the songs in the album! I’ve been listening to Hello, Goodbye by Hyorin on repeat since yesterday. The songs in the soundtrack are great, which is why I wish they played them more in the show. I felt lượt thích they only tuy nhiên I kept hearing was You Are My Destiny by Lyn. It’s lovely but there are other great ones in the OST that they could have used as often too. Though, I must say, I did love the background music for this drama (the ones without lyrics). I especially love Space Love and Missing You. The melodies set the tone quite well for certain scenes.

THE ENDING and MY RATING

I would give this drama 4.9 out of 5 stars. I deducted 0.1 stars because I’m not completely satisfied with the ending. (Although I very rarely find a drama where I was completely happy with the ending – probably because when I really lượt thích something I don’t want it to end.) I had several unanswered questions after the show ended. Lượt thích what happens to Hwi Kyung? Did he find someone else to love? What about Yoo Se Mi? Will bởi vì Min Joon be able lớn live on Earth permanently someday? Will he stay young forever and have to lớn watch Cheon tuy vậy Yi grow old & die? Will they finally be able to lớn kiss or makeout without him passing out? Can they have a family? What did they tell the media that made them back off regarding his teleportation?

Despite all those loose ends, I really enjoyed this show a lot. This is one of those dramas that I know I will watch over và over again. If you lượt thích romantic comedies then I highly recommend you give this a try
